Art, Science, & The Brain

From October 31 to November 1, 2011 a national delegation of 300 innovators in public education will take part in a groundbreaking “knowledge eXchange” – Art, Science and the Brain: New Models of Learning for the 21st Century. Interactive sessions will “explore inquiry-based learning and its effect on our brains.” The emerging field of project-based education, which synthesizes art and science, is multi-faceted. This is reflected in the range of interrelated themes and sessions including: New Approaches to Literacy, The Lost Art of Building Things, and The Space of Learning. Prelude will be featured on the panel Empathy as Life Skill on Tuesday, November 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The panel moderator is Dr. H.B. Esbin, creator of Prelude and founder of Heliotrope. Other panelists include Orlando Bowen – One Voice One Team, Lorna Blumen – Girls Respect Groups, Nadir Shirazi – Multifacet Diversity Solutions, and Taylor Gunn – StudentVote. The conference is co-presented by ArtsSmarts and Social Innovation Generation at the MaRS Discovery District (SiG@MaRS). SiG@MaRS is a Heliotrope advisor.
