Cross Cultural Student Videoconference
May 30, 2009
On May 11 students in the United Arab Emirates and Canada participated in a videoconference to share their experiences playing Prelude. More specifically, this involved 40 first-year business students at the Women’s College in Dubai and 32 Grade 11 students at Massey-Vanier High School in Quebec’s Eastern Townships.
It became evident to all participants that Prelude helped them identify common bonds as well as what makes them distinct and special. As a result of her vision and pioneering effort, Professor Maureen Cocksedge won the Women’s College “Practicing the Future Award for Innovation in Teaching”. Patrick Fontaine, Grade 11 Teacher, wrote ‘it was one of the most exciting teaching experiences of my career. My students loved the project and will never forget it. They were very positive about the whole conference. They enjoyed the exchange of ideas and, ultimately, culture.”
Given the success of the initiative overall, further exchanges are being planned for 2010. It must be noted that this truly was a collaborative effort involving the good will and resources of teachers, students, parents, technologists, and administrators.
