Elemental Imagination
April 26, 2011
“Elemental Philosophy: Earth, Air, Fire, and Water as Environmental Ideas” is a vital new book by David Macauley, Associate Professor of Philosophy and Environmental Studies at Penn State University Brandywine. According to Dr. Macauley “the four elements – water, air, earth, and fire – have exercised an enormous, if often unnoticed, impact on the Occidental imagination.” His book is therefore a “powerful invitation for philosophical regrounding and lyrical reflection about basic elemental principles that are critical to living wisely and well on planet Earth today“. Indeed. Elemental Philosophy also provides a timely case for Prelude’s raison d’être and growing relevance. For more on this dynamic topic please see a previous blog entry.
